這本第五版重點在光盤上，印刷版反而成了配角。證據如，collocation的數據，印刷版收錄65,000筆，光盤上多給了82,000筆；Synonym數據，印刷版收錄18,000筆，光盤多給30,000筆數據。光看這些，就足夠把印刷版的使用者全部趕到光盤上了。光盤部分，由原來的兩張CD-ROM變成一張DVD-ROM。實質內容的增加，明顯可以感受得到。LDOCE5的frontmatter更直接說明了
以兩片光盤容納辭典內容，除了OED之外，就是LDOCE4v2。現在這一新版更擴而大之，用起DVD-ROM來了。如我之前說的，安裝後的數據容量，從1.14GB擴大到2.31GB，大約相當四張CD-ROM的容量。
打開畫面，十二個功能如棋盤狀展開。GuidedTour有58段動畫介紹，我強烈建議使用者先全部看過。因為整套軟件的功能大致都有不錯的解說。這個開啟畫面，每次啟動軟件都要在此停留，還真有點累贅。點選左上角Dictionary即可進入辭典.
