AbouttheCourse

ThiscourseoffersabroadsurveyofmodernEuropeanhistory,fromtheendoftheThirtyYears'WartotheaftermathofWorldWarII.AlongwiththeconsiderationofmajoreventsandfiguressuchastheFrenchRevolutionandNapoleon,attentionwillbepaidtotheexperienceofordinarypeopleintimesofupheavalandtransition.Theperiodwillthusbeviewedneitherintermsofhistoricalinevitabilitynorasaprocessionofgreatmen,butratherthroughthelensofthecomplexinterrelationsbetweendemographicchange,politicalrevolution,andculturaldevelopment.Textbookaccountswillbeaccompaniedbythestudyofexemplaryworksofart,literature,andcinema.

有關教授JohnMerriman
