FileExtractorisapowerfulutilitythatwillscanyourselectedfilesorfoldersandextracttheindividualfiles,text,andotherdatacontainedinthem.

Itisusefulforextractingwantedfilesoutofotherfilesinavarietyofcircumstances.Forexamplewhenyouhavea3rdpartyfilethatyouneedthecontentsofwhichareotherwiseinaccessible,orwhenyouneedtoaccessthecontentsofyourownfilesthatarecorruptorotherwisehardtoobtain.

Duetothefactthatitusesstateoftheartalgorithmstoextractdatafromanykindoffile(includingdecompressingsomefiletypesandUUDecodinganyencodeddataitcomesacrosstransparentlyandon-the-fly),itwilloftensurpriseyouwiththequantity,quality,andkindofdatathatyoufinditwillextractfromfiles.Additionallyalltextissavedan"RawText(plain)"whichwillgiveyouaccesstoallvalidtextdatafoundanywherescanned.

AnotherfeatureithasisthatifyoumakeadiskimageusingDiskUtilityandscanthatitwillrecoverdeletedfilesfromthat.ThiscanbeusedwithcameraSDcards,spinningharddisks,andmostothermediatypes.

•Graphicsimagestoextracttheseparateimagescontainedinthem(suchasPSDfiles)
•Scandiskimages(withthe.dmgextension)torecoverthedeletedfilesfromthem.Ifyoumakea.dmgfileofadigitalcamera'smemorycard(usingDiskUtility)youcaneffectivelyrecoverdeletedfilesfromyourcamerathatweredeleted,orgetfilesbackafterthecardbecomescorrupted.
•Anylargecomplexfiletype.ForexampleyouwilloftenfindjpegsembeddedinPhotoshopdocuments.
•Yourbrowsercaches.Youwillbeabletoviewthefilestheycontainthisway.
•Corrupteddocumentswhichyouwouldliketosalvagethecontentsof.FileExtractorwillextractallrawtextfromanydocumentkindandsaveitas"RawText(Plain)"inthefoldersthatitdisplays.
