TheYamahaCFXConcertGrandPiano
TheCFXpianomarksasignificantmilestoneinYamaha’scelebrated108-yearhistoryasanacclaimedworld-classpianomaker.In1991,Yamahabeganitsmostambitiouspianoprojectever:tocreateanewgenerationofgrandpianoforconcert,conservatoireandstudioperformance.

TheresultwastheCFXConcertGrandPiano,arevolutionarynewinstrumentthatembodiestheconceptofbeautyandpower.Therichpaletteoftonalcolorsandmusicalvoicesthepianocanproducecharacterizesitsbeauty.ThepowercomesfromtheCFX’sunprecedentedtonalprojection.Thedevelopmentandevaluationphaseofthisremarkableinstrumenttookalmost20years.Duringthistime,a40-strongteamoftheworld’smosttalentedpianodesigners,technicians,craftsmenand,ofcourse,pianistsdeconstructedtheconcertgrandandbeganrebuildingitfromthegroundup.Everyaspectoftraditionalpianodesignwasquestioned,evaluated,improvedandrelentlesslytested.Oncethedesignwasnearingcompletion,multipleprototypesenduredthousandsofhoursofsecrettestingatconcerthallsacrosstheglobe.

AbbeyRoadStudios’StudioOneisoneofthelargestandmostbeautifulsoundingorchestralstudiosintheworld.Thespacecaneasilyaccommodatea110pieceorchestraand100piecechoirsimultaneously.StudioOne’sacousticsareasfamousasitslocation,offeringasupremelywarmandclearsoundwithareverbtimeof2.3seconds.Thismakesitperfectfornumeroustypesofrecording,fromsolopianotolargeorchestras.

StudioOneisAbbeyRoad’slargestrecordingspaceandhasenjoyedaremarkablehistory.ArchitectsWallisGilbertandPartnersdecoratedtheoriginalwallsofStudioOneintheirdistinctiveart-decostyle,whichgavetheroomadarkersoundthanitscurrent,superior-soundingincarnation.In1931theimpressiveroomhostedAbbeyRoad’sinauguralrecordingsessionwithSirEdwardElgar,andhassincehostedhistoricsessionsbytheLondonSymphonyOrchestraandluminariesrangingfromYehudiMenuhin,PabloCasales,BelaBartokandJaschaHeifetztoGlennMillerandFatsWaller.In1967,StudioOneplayedhosttoTheBeatles’famousperformanceof‘AllYouNeedIsLove,’whichwascapturedaspartofthefirsteverlive,internationalsatelliteTVbroadcast.
